Your Guide to Seeking Care with PsychSehat
We understand that seeking psychiatric help can bring up many questions. Here are clear, honest answers to help you feel completely confident in your mental health journey.
1. What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD/MBBS) who specializes in mental health. They can perform clinical diagnoses, order medical tests, and prescribe medications to manage complex neurochemical imbalances. A psychologist focuses primarily on talk therapy, behavioral interventions, and counseling. At PsychSehat, our psychiatrists and psychologists work hand-in-hand to give you a complete, well-rounded treatment plan.
2. Will I be forced to take medication, and are psychiatric medicines addictive?
Not every psychiatric condition requires medication. Our specialists use modern, evidence-based practices; if your condition can be successfully managed through psychotherapy alone, that will be our primary path. If medication is necessary, our doctors prescribe modern, non-habit-forming treatments under strict clinical supervision. We carefully explain the benefits and monitor your dosage to ensure your safety and comfort.
3. How do I know if I need a psychiatric evaluation?
If emotional or behavioral challenges such as persistent sadness, overwhelming anxiety, uncontrollable racing thoughts, sudden mood shifts or changes in sleep and appetite are disrupting your daily work, relationships or physical health a clinical evaluation is highly recommended. Seeking help early makes a significant difference in recovery.
4. Is my information and medical history kept confidential?
Yes, absolutely. Patient privacy is a foundational pillar of PsychSehat. All consultations, psychiatric evaluations, digital medical records and prescriptions are strictly protected under international health data standards. No information regarding your diagnosis or treatment will ever be shared with anyone including family members without your explicit, written consent.
5. Can I consult with a psychiatrist online?
Yes. We offer video based tele-psychiatry appointments for patients across Pakistan, allowing you to speak to our doctors from the comfort and privacy of your home. However, for certain complex or acute conditions, our doctors may recommend an in-person evaluation at one of our clinical hubs to ensure an accurate diagnosis and safe treatment plan.
6. How do I book an appointment and what should I expect during my first visit?
You can book an appointment directly by messaging us on WhatsApp. During your first session (which typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes), the doctor will talk with you openly about your history, symptoms and concerns in a judgment-free space to build an initial treatment roadmap.
